Socialite struck by car on Upper East Side, suffers two broken legs

Socialite Melissa Berkelhammer is recovering from two broken legs after being hit by a car on the Upper East Side, Page Six has learned.

We’re told a car smashed into blond beauty Berkelhammer, a contributing writer for Avenue, as she legally crossed York Avenue at 83rd Street on her way to a hair salon on May 29.

“Her shoe had flown over 200 feet,” a source tells us. “She was bloody and just in and out of consciousness. Three ambulances arrived and one took her to the hospital. She needed two blood transfusions and immediate surgery to save her life and her legs.”

A staple on the social circuit, Berkelhammer spent several weeks in New York-Presbyterian Hospital and is recovering.

“She is in pain and suffering from a bad infection,” a friend of Melissa told us.

“It’s awful.” Berkelhammer had just completed an episode of a planned show called “Celebrity Buzz With Melissa,” and was scheduled to do an additional dozen episodes.

The show has been delayed for another month.

The reckless driver’s license was suspended.

Get well, Melissa!
