Comic Big Jay Oakerson lost his Freeport, LI, home and his car to Sandy but still made it to Gramercy on Thursday to give locals a free laugh. He appeared at The Stand comedy club, which opened its doors for free to cheer the downtown set affected by power outages. We’re told Oakerson got on stage lit by a miner’s headlight and candlelight. Other comics who performed included Joe Matarese, who drove in from Westchester, while Luis Gomez walked 40 blocks to host the show. A rep for the club told us: “We’re a new business and decided to do something for the community. The neighbors need a distraction; the comedians need a place to gather.” The Third Avenue club put on a second free show Friday night.
