Barbara Walters is enjoying all the fanfare she’s getting after announcing she’ll retire in a year. “I’ve been having such a fantastic week,” she said Wednesday at the Paley Center for Media benefit dinner at Espace. “It’s like reading your own obituary.” Walters continued, “A few years ago, I wrote in my autobiography about my grandmother, who announced on her deathbed that she was a virgin. And her seven children said, ‘Ma, there are seven of us here . . . you must have done something with Dad,’ and she said, ‘Yes, but I never participated.’ So I have been participating now for a great number of years, and it’s almost time to stop participating.”
