Jay-z continued his “Magna Carta . . . Holy Grail” promo push yesterday with a live performance at Pace Gallery, where he performed his song “Picasso Baby” for six hours for guests including Judd Apatow, Adam Driver, Cynthia Rowley, George Condo and others. He was seen serenading Alan Cumming, and dancing around Marina Abramovic, Performa founder RoseLee Goldberg and even a woman on a scooter with her leg in a cast. The marathon performance, which was also hosted by film director Mark Romanek and Upper East Side gallery Salon 94, came on the heels of the rapper’s release of his 12th album via Samsung phones over July Fourth weekend. His art-centric “Picasso” song includes the lyrics, “I just want a Picasso, in my casa . . . I wanna Rothko, no I wanna brothel,” and makes further reference to “Jeff Koons balloons,” “[George] Condos in my condos,” Andy Warhol and JeanMichel Basquiat. The concept isn’t completely original: Rock band the National played their song “Sorrow” for six hours at MoMA PS1 in May.
