Joan Rivers ‘Fashion’ fight continues

The battle against Joan Rivers by striking writers of her E! show “Fashion Police” continues to rage. The Writers Guild of America East says it has voted to send charges filed against the comedienne to a “three-person trial board.” A WGA release announcing the move this week alleges that Rivers — a longtime union member — violated its rules by “writing and by performing showrunner duties” for her own E! show at the same time her own writers were striking after filing complaints that E! and Rivers’ production company hasn’t paid them $1.5 million in wages and overtime. But Rivers’ manager Larry Thompson countered: “Other than a press release, nothing has been filed by the WGA. We have received no communication, notice or any paperwork from anyone at the union. Joan has stated clearly, and E! Networks has repeatedly reconfirmed that Joan supports the ‘Fashion Police’ writers, who are hired by E! . . . not her. This is an issue between E! and the WGA. She is on-air talent.”
