Chris Brown charged with criminal hit-and-run, singer responds in outrage

The Los Angeles City Attorney has hit Chris Brown with misdemeanor criminal hit-and-run charges.

The hotheaded 24-year-old and his off-and-on girlfriend Karrueche Tran were in the singer’s Range Rover when he rear-ended a Mercedes at traffic lights in Beverly Hills last month.

Brown, however, reportedly refused to hand over his driver’s license to the other motorist, a female, and allegedly provided fake insurance information, so the LAPD opened an investigation.

TMZ reports that Brown now faces two criminal charges for leaving the scene without exchanging proper information and for driving without a valid license. The crimes are punishable by up to six months in jail for each offense.

It is currently unclear if this case would violate Brown’s probation stemming from his abuse conviction involving ex-girlfriend Rihanna.

Brown is scheduled to be arraigned on July 15 in a Van Nuys court.

Shortly after news broke of the hit-and-run charge, Brown sent out a series of furious tweets and also sent one directly to TMZ after they reported his latest assault accusation.

“I have a valid drivers license and I gave the woman the right info. She saw cameras and wanted to make a scene,” he wrote. “She contacted the cops thinking of a payday from Chris Brown when I followed the proper procedures.”
