Food Network axes Paula Deen after series of bizarre apology videos

Paula Deen is out of the frying pan and has been fired.

The Food Network plans to let the 66-year-old star go at the end of her contract, which expires at the end of the month, according to Talking Points Memo.

Deen’s firing comes after the celebrity chef released two YouTube videos where she apologized for using “inappropriate, hurtful language.”

“I want to apologize to everybody for the wrong that I’ve done, and I want to learn and grow from this,” Deen said in the first choppy video.

“Inappropriate, hurtful language is totally, totally unacceptable. I’ve made plenty of mistakes along the way, but I beg you, my children, my team, my fans, my partners, I beg for your forgiveness. Please forgive me for the mistakes that I’ve made.”

The odd video apologies from Deen come in the wake of two major PR blunders.

First, Deen blew off an appearance she scheduled late last night on this morning’s “Today” show.

Later it emerged that the TV cook and her codefendants in their $1.2M discrimination lawsuit were held in contempt of court for allegedly failing to turn in outtakes of Deen “cussing up a storm” and “performing a sex act on a chocolate éclair,” according to RadarOnline.

Deen and her codefendants have since complied with the order to turn over the video, a source told Radar, but not until after being found in contempt.

The controversy surrounding Deen started when the 66-year-old Food Network star was questioned in the discrimination lawsuit and admitted to having used racial slurs in the past.
