May the Force be with them! George Lucas marries Mellody Hobson

Samuel L. Jackson, aka Jedi Master Mace Windu, said it best in a tweet over the weekend, “Let’s give a Galactic shout out to Master George Lucas & his bride Melodie on this, their wedding day.”

The “Star Wars” mastermind and his bride Mellody Hobson tied the knot on Skywalker Ranch in Marin County, Calif. on Saturday in an intimate ceremony.

Huffington Post reported that the wedding was officiated by journalist Bill Moyers, who was a Baptist minister before his illustrious career in the media.

“It only takes one person to have met the love of your life,” Moyers told the couple.

Steven Spielberg, Lucas’ longtime friend and collaborator, gave the toast from the groom’s side. Hobson’s fellow executive at Ariel Investments, spoke on behalf of the bride. Director Francis Ford Coppola read a poem by Maya Angelou.

Van Morrison and Janelle Monae performed at the ceremony and former New Jersey Senator Bill Bradley, a friend of Hobson’s since she was 17-years-old, gave away the bride and offered a toast before the cake-cutting ceremony.

This is the first marriage for 44-year-old Hobson, who wore a white Peter Soronen dress. Lucas, 69, was previously married to film editor Marcia Griffin. Lucas’ son, Jett, was his best man, and his daughters, Katie and Amanda, served as bridesmaids.

Director Ron Howard also tweeted, “George Lucas Melody Hobson wedding was joy to behold Bill Moyers service was beautiful, nothing short of profound. Congrats Mr&Mrs Lucas.”

Lucas and Hobson were engaged over the holidays last year. The couple have had a long-distance relationship for seven years with Lucas based in California and Hobson in Chicago, where she runs investment firm Ariel Investments.
