Madonna is heading back to the director’s chair. The Material Girl has signed on to helm a film adaptation of Rebecca Walker’s 2013 novel, “Adé: A Love Story” — which follows an entitled 19-year-old Yale student traveling in Africa who falls in love with a Swahili Muslim man.

But the lovers’ plan to marry is interrupted by malaria and political realities including a civil war.

“American Beauty” and “Milk” producer Bruce Cohen is producing the indie movie with his company’s Jessica Leventhal, and Walker also is producing.

Madonna’s last big-screen effort, “W.E.,” about the affair between King Edward VIII and Wallis Simpson, slumped at the box office, making just $583,455 after loads of hype.
