Keitel makes his own red carpet at Lincoln Center premiere

Harvey Keitel showed off his improvisational skills when helping out with a makeshift red carpet at a premiere Sunday.

The “Reservoir Dogs” star was at a screening of “The French Minister” — one of the Gallic imports playing Lincoln Center’s Rendez-Vous with French Cinema festival — when he noticed there was no red carpet for the film’s acclaimed director, Bertrand Tavernier, to walk.

“He went up to a woman and said, ‘Excuse me, miss, may I borrow your scarf?’ ” a spy relates. Keitel then laid the crimson garment on the floor in front of Tavernier, exclaiming, “Voila! There’s your red carpet.”

(No word on whether he picked up the lady’s dry cleaning bill.)

The movie stars France’s first mistress Julie Gayet.
