Instead of turkey dressing, CBS staffers got a dressing down from the boss before Thanksgiving. Workers at CBS Interactive were happy to get an e-mail from division president Jim Lanzone saying that not only would the office be closed Dec. 24-28, among other days, but, even more, “Do not show up for work those days. The doors will be padlocked, and the windows turned into the material from that room in ‘The Avengers’ that Thor’s hammer couldn’t break.” But any CBSNews.com staffers who thought the decree applied to them were dissuaded by a much-less-cuddly e-mail sent Nov. 21 by executive producer Nancy Lane. “Contrary to the note below, CBSNews.com will NOT be closed [Dec. 24-28],” she said of Lanzone’s missive. “The same is true for Tuesday January 1st. These are considered regular work days . . . We are a NEWS site and do not have the luxury of just shutting down or staffing so thinly as to be uncompetitive.” But she didn’t stop there. “Take the current situation in the Middle East . . . they do not celebrate the holiday and we must be available to fully and accurately program our site with all news updates. Questions? Come see me.” So does that mean the doors won’t now be padlocked with the material from the room in “The Avengers?” Will Captain America show up for work? A CBS Interactive rep told us, “Since the news never stops, many of the merry elves at CBSNews.com will take their vacation at another time, but rest assured they’ll get it in just the same.”
