O, no! Bleachers for Anna Wintour

While Tuesday’s Hofstra debate was all about questions from the floor, there was still plenty of jostling among New York dignitaries for a ringside seat to the jousting between President Obama and Mitt Romney. Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour, a key fund-raiser for Obama, had to forgo her usual front-row seat to watch from the bleachers with other VIPs during the debate. Also there were writer Hilary Geary and Wilbur Ross, Robert Zimmerman, Long Island Congressman Steve Israel, former Sen. Al D’Amato and NY State Senate leader Dean Skelos and Jay Jacobs. Sen. Chuck Schumer’s early disappearance from the hall sparked rumors that “he wasn’t happy with his seat.” But, we’re told, Schumer had been summoned by the Democrats to watch the Obama-Romney battle in their “spin room” with David Axelrod and others before delivering their verdict as the debate ended. A Schumer rep said, “He gave up his seats because the Obama campaign wanted all its ‘spinners’ to be together backstage with the campaign’s senior staff.”
