Winslet, hubby planned secret wedding carefully, but told few

Newlyweds Kate Winslet and Ned Rocknroll carefully planned their wedding earlier this month in upstate New York, but waited until after the ceremony to tell most of their friends and family.

The actress, 37, and Rocknroll, 34, were planning the ceremony for many months, reports The Daily Mail. “Marriage has always been on the cards and they’ve been talking about doing it for the past couple of months,” an insider told the paper. “It wasn’t a spur-of-the-moment thing, but they wanted to keep it secret.”

According to The Sun, Winslet and Rocknroll exchanged platinum and diamond-encrusted wedding rings they had custom-made while on a trip to Hong Kong. The couple, who have been together more than a year, said ‘I do’ in a heated barn in the Catskills decorated with wild flowers and jam jars, according to The Daily Mail.

The couple didn’t tell their families until after the ceremony. The Sun reports Rocknroll, who is the nephew of Virgin Inc. founder Richard Branson, called his stepbrothers via Skype on Dec 26. Rocknroll then asked, “’Would you like to speak to my wife?’’ and pulled a “beaming, giggling Kate” into view.

Winslet’s friend and “Titanic” co-star Leonardo DiCaprio walked Winslet down the aisle at the ceremony, while Rocknroll’s best man was his brother, Jack. Winslet’s daughter, Mia 12, and son Jack, 9 — from her two previous marriages — were also at the ceremony.
