While Spike Lee has lashed out at “Django Unchained,” despite refusing to see the controversial film, others are debating its merits. Harvard intellectual Henry Louis Gates Jr. posted an interview with director Quentin Tarantino on his Web site the Root, in which Gates calls it “a postmodern slave-narrative Western.” Writer Toure tweeted, “I loved Django. Much to say about it: complex film and one of the year’s best.” Star Jones tweeted, “Wow #DJANGOUNCHAINED is truly NEXT LEVEL. Brilliantly written, acted and directed . . . across the board.” While Damon Wayans Jr. took a humorous tack: “It was good. But it was racist. AND I had to sit in the back of the theater. #DoubleRacist.”
