The only tossup, he says, will be for Best Supporting Actor, with Tommy Lee Jones slightly favored over Christoph Waltz at 7:5 (because Waltz won it in 2009). “Argo” is an easier bet he reckons, at 1:20 to win Best Picture. But Steven Spielberg is favored to win Best Director at 1:7, and his Honest Abe, Daniel Day-Lewis (“a serious actor in a serious part,” Danny said), is 1:250 to win Best Actor. Jennifer Lawrence is a 1:2 lock as Best Actress for “Silver Linings Playbook,” with Emanuelle Riva (“Amour”) a 3:1 runner-up. “Riva has support among older voters,” Sheridan said. For Best Supporting Actress, Anne Hathaway is favored 1:100 to win for “Les Misérables” while Sally Field (“Lincoln”) is a 50:1 long shot. Mind you, it’s illegal for Vegas casinos to take money on Oscar action “because of the strong possibility of ‘inside information’ — fixes,” Sheridan said. But in London you can wager on almost anything.
