Oscar odds on ‘Argo,’ Anne Hathaway

We’ve given you the Oscar insider news, but with final ballots cast, oddsmaker Danny Sheridan tells us he’s got “no doubts” about five of six top categories. The only tossup, he says, will be for Best Supporting Actor, with Tommy Lee Jones slightly favored over Christoph Waltz at 7:5 (because Waltz won it in 2009). “Argo” is an easier bet he reckons, at 1:20 to win Best Picture. But Steven Spielberg is favored to win Best Director at 1:7, and his Honest Abe, Daniel Day-Lewis (“a serious actor in a serious part,” Danny said), is 1:250 to win Best Actor. Jennifer Lawrence is a 1:2 lock as Best Actress for “Silver Linings Playbook,” with Emanuelle Riva (“Amour”) a 3:1 runner-up. “Riva has support among older voters,” Sheridan said. For Best Supporting Actress, Anne Hathaway is favored 1:100 to win for “Les Misérables” while Sally Field (“Lincoln”) is a 50:1 long shot. Mind you, it’s illegal for Vegas casinos to take money on Oscar action “because of the strong possibility of ‘inside information’ — fixes,” Sheridan said. But in London you can wager on almost anything.
