When Courtney Love kicked off what she’s calling her “I’m Still Alive” tour in Brooklyn last week, some in the audience were disappointed that the formerly messy Hole singer stayed so in control. A spy at rock spot Warsaw in Greenpoint observed Love downing what looked like a shot before her gig, but our witness added with a hint of disappointment that the show went off without any surprises. “There were no antics or anything crazy,” we’re told. Backstage, David Blaine was doing magic tricks and artist Richard Phillips was showing VIPs his latest artwork on an iPhone. Love was back in Brooklyn again this week at BAM Fisher to support her friends — philosopher Simon Critchley and his psychoanalyst wife, Jamieson Webster — at a party for their book, “Stay, Illusion! The Hamlet Doctrine.” Spies said Love showed up on time, “puffed on an e-cig” and “listened intently to a reading” before playing three songs for “an appreciative, if somewhat stunned academic audience.”
