Top French DJ infuriates party crowd with last minute cancellation

Top French DJ and producer Cedric Gervais left the Hamptons party crowd fuming on July Fourth after canceling a gig at Southampton hot spot 75 Main on short notice. A source told us that Gervais, perhaps best known in the US for his provocative electronic hit “Molly,” had been paid about $20,000 to play at the party hosted by Jonathan Cheban and that the restaurant filled up with guests forking out big money for tables. But a source said, “Just a few days before the gig, which had been heavily publicized and was sold out, Gervais canceled . . . Expensive hotel rooms had been booked. It was embarrassing for the organizers.” We’re told Marseille-born Gervais is in the middle of a US tour and didn’t feel the Hamptons gig left him enough time to prepare for his appearance at the Wavefront Beachside Music Festival in Chicago. He tweeted on Wednesday, “I’m not playing at 75 main in the Hampton’s tomorrow i keep getting tweets about this i just want to clarify that i’m not there tomorrow.” When we asked about the last-minute cancellation, a Gervais rep told us, “You have been misinformed.” A spokeswoman for 75 Main owner Zach Erdem said, “The contracts between Zach Erdem and DJ Cedric Gervais were finalized two weeks in advance of the event . . . 24 hours before the event, Gervais canceled. Erdem has yet to receive a refund. 75 Main welcomed between 400 and 500 guests on the night of July Fourth. The majority of guests had come expecting to see and hear DJ Cedric Gervais, and a large number left early when they realized he was a no-show.” Erdem said, “When you are working with a world-famous DJ . . . you expect them to be professional. What DJ Cedric Gervais did . . . was not professional at all.” Erdem, who claims the venue incurred about $100,000 in losses, said he plans to sue.
