The Four Seasons restaurant co-owner Julian Niccolini had to find a safe haven in Brooklyn for some bees this week. Niccolini’s hives at his Bee Naughty honeybee farm in upstate Bedford have been attacked twice by bears, it seems. So with help from Bees Without Borders’ Andrew Cote, Niccolini relocated the insects to the Ujima community garden in East New York. Just as the residential real-estate market’s tight for humans, there’s a crunch among beekeepers for available hives. But Niccolini’s queen and her drones are now taking to their grittier new urban environs like, well, bees to honey. A rep said, “It seems Westchester was too wild for Julian’s colony . . . For their own safety and cultural enrichment, they had to be moved.”
