James McAvoy slugged back whiskey to get the right look to play a drug-and sex-addicted bipolar detective in the boundary-pushing movie “Filth.”
The Scottish actor told us at a Cinema Society screening at Sunshine Landmark, “I was drinking a lot more than I usually do.” He added it helped him with the gritty award-winning role because, “It wakes you up halfway through the night…physically I was a mess.”
Trudie Styler, who produced the flick based on the Irvine Welsh book with Maven Pictures partner Celine Rattray, says an intense sex scene that “women would probably not want to see” had to be cut.
