Nas documentary set to kick off Tribeca Film Festival

Looks like the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival is poised to kick off with some homegrown talent.

A documentary about Queens-born rapper Nas will premiere at the fest on April 16. Titled “Time Is Illmatic,” the film traces Nas’ career following the debut of his 1994 album “Illmatic.”

“It’s an honor to premiere this film in my hometown,” said Nas in a statement. He’ll follow the screening with a concert.

This is the second year in a row the festival will open with a music doc, following 2013’s “Mistaken for Strangers,” about Brooklyn band the National.
