Denzel Washington spent two hours at the Strand bookstore Tuesday afternoon with a personal shopper. The star, who went mostly unnoticed in sweats and a Yankees cap, told managers he was redecorating his New York apartment and didn’t want to rely on a decorator to choose books to fill one of the rooms. He bought more than 300 titles, including the novel “Ota Benga: The Pygmy in the Zoo,” which he once tried to option, and biographies of historical figures. Although he carries a Bible throughout his latest flick, “The Book of Eli,” Washington didn’t buy the Good Book on his shopping spree.
