Sen. Lautenberg sits through jokes at Jersey’s expense

New Jersey Sen. Frank Lautenberg gracefully endured a barrage of jokes at the expense of the Garden State from fellow Jersey boy and “Roastmaster General” Jeffrey Ross at Carolines on Broadway Thursday night. When the senator offered up that he was originally from Paterson, Ross — who deserves a late-night TV show more than any of the current hosts — cracked, “That’s a great city . . . if you’re a bullet,” reports The Post’s Mandy Stadtmiller. After Ross bashed everything from the stench of the Turnpike (“By age 9, I learned how to breathe through my eyes”) to Jersey’s recent legalization of medical marijuana, Lautenberg threw his hands up in the air and yelled, “Mercy!” After the show, Ross, who plays Carolines through tomorrow, hugged it out with Lautenberg and thanked him for being a good sport.
