Kenneth Cole has been taken to task for tweeting an insensitive post about the uprising in Egypt to hawk his wares. The designer posted on Twitter yesterday, “Millions are in uproar in #Cairo. Rumor is they heard our new spring collection is now available online . . .” with a link to the fashion line’s Web site. Outraged fans took to Cole’s Facebook page to protest. “Mr. Cole, Chairman and Chief Creative Officer . . . You are definitely not very sensitive for a chairman and even less creative,” said one commenter. By the afternoon, the tweet had been deleted and Cole posted an apology on his Facebook page: “In hindsight my attempt at humor regarding a nation liberating themselves against oppression was poorly timed and absolutely inappropriate.” Cole took heat after a comment on the fifth anniversary of 9/11, when he told a newspaper, “Important moments like this are a time to reflect. To remind us, sometimes, that it’s not only important what you wear, but it’s also important to be aware.”
