Reese owns the natural look in first trailer for ‘Wild’ biopic

“Walk the Line”-era Reese Witherspoon is alive!

In the first trailer for her upcoming film, “Wild,” Witherspoon gets back into serious-actress gear. The movie, based on the bestselling memoir of the same name by Cheryl Strayed, follows a woman who, after getting divorced and losing her mother, hikes 1,100 miles on the Pacific Crest Trail to find herself.

The wildly popular book owes a lot to one Oprah Winfrey, who selected it as the first choice for the relaunch of her book club. And well, if it’s good enough for Oprah, it’s good enough for us.

The flick is a passion project for Witherspoon, who optioned the rights to the book before it even came out. Wanting to keep it as real as possible, she opted to go makeup-free.

Director Jean-Marc Vallée, who also helmed “Dallas Buyers Club,” told Entertainment Weekly, “She went method with the hair and no makeup … We wanted to see Reese out there, not vain at all, not concerned with her image, and she went for it. Wait until you see her in the film. It’s a new Reese.”

“Wild” opens in theaters December 5.
