Top ‘consigliere’ John Meneilly leaves Jay Z’s team

One of Jay Z’s top lieutenants has bolted from his empire: John Meneilly, who was considered the rapper’s right-hand man.

Meneilly was said to be a pivotal figure in the creation of Jay’s empire, having been introduced to the mogul in the late ’90s by music exec Chris Lighty.

“Though Meneilly is essentially a business manger, Jay Z refers to him as a consigliere,” Zack O’Malley Greenburg wrote of Meneilly in his book, “Empire State of Mind.” Meneilly oversaw Jay Z’s projects from his autobiography “Decoded” to his “Hard Knock Life” tour.

A source said Meneilly had parted ways with Roc Nation a few years ago, but continued working on Jay’s personal business, which he left a few months ago, adding that it was an amicable parting.
