Martha Stewart, stars tweet and flee the storm

Celebs weren’t immune to the wrath of Hurricane Sandy. Martha Stewart holed up at her farm in upstate Bedford, where she tweeted her storm prep of “tying up top heavy topiaries, wisteria vines, extra heavy apple tree branches,” to no avail. “Trees are crashing, power down, winds horrible a big mess at the farm but undoubtedly worst near the water worst to come,” she wrote. Adding later, “Trees falling everywhere — my gate is blocked by the top of a giant white pine — lightning, very strong winds and pelting rain.” Alec Baldwin was one of many without power. “No lights here, no Internet. My wife @hilariabaldwin and I, sitting in the dark wondering where is the storm? (No jokes please),” he tweeted, followed by, “Possibly leaving our home to check into a hotel.” John Legend stuck it out at home. “My apartment building is swaying a lot. i’m going to imagine i’m on a cruise ship and i’m about to go to the buffet,” he wrote before escaping to a friend’s place. Hotelier Ian Schrager hunkered down at his SoHo penthouse with his kids, but fled to the Mandarin Oriental when they lost power.
