College to offer Miley Cyrus class, twerk-free

At least it won’t be called Twerking 101.

Skidmore College in upstate New York will offer a summer course on celebutard Miley Cyrus – but the egghead teaching the class says students won’t be required to twerk.

The Saratogian newspaper reported that the course will be offered by Carolyn Chernoff, an assistant professor at the private liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs. She named the course “The Sociology of Miley Cyrus: Race, Class, Gender and Media.”

Chernoff said she will focus on the 21-year-old performer and all her incarnations as a way to study such topics as gender, race, class, fame and power.

She hatched the idea after teaching a course on youth culture that featured video of Cyrus twerking at the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards.

But there will be no twerking in class.

“Sorry, dudes, but this is sociology. Learn to twerk on your own time,” she said, according to the Saratogian newspaper.

“You can study a lot of things based on Miley,” she said. “She represents how transient wealth and fame can be, and shows how possible it is to change your image.”

The college, whose slogan is “Creative thought matters,” costs about $55,000 a year for tuition, room and board.

It wasn’t immediately clear how much the course on Cyrus would cost.

Some students were dismissive of the class, the paper reported, mostly because they do not like Cyrus.

Senior Robin Shore, a pre-veterinary major, called the course a trendy way to attract students.
