Derrick Gordon, the NCAA’s first openly gay Division 1 basketball player, is taking his relationship public.
The 22-year-old athlete appeared thrilled to attend the GLAAD Awards in New York City on Saturday with “CSI” actor Gerald McCullouch as his date.
Both sporting bow ties, Gordon and McCullouch, 47, happily posed for photographers together and shared snapshots of their own across social media.
“A night that I will never forget and a night that I didnt want to end…It was an awesome night.THANK YOU GLAAD…@geraldmccullouch …@glaad #Epicnight#betrue #loveislove,” Gordon captioned one image.
When asked by a Twitter follower if McCullouch was his “BF,” Gordon replied, “yea he is” and told another follower, “I couldn’t be any happier being with him….”
McCullouch (who makes his directorial debut with “Daddy”) says he first communicated with Gordon via Twitter and they’ve been friends for a few years.
“Through the years I’ve encouraged him to lead an authentic life and tried my best to offer as much objective support as possible,” McCullouch told E ! News, adding that they only met in person last month.
“There is certainly a spark between Derrick and me,” he added. “I’m very proud of him and think he’s an engaging, courageous, and handsome young man.”
