Documentaries are proving hot targets for movie buyers at the Tribeca Film Festival this year, sources said.
The fest’s opening film about rapper Nas, “Time Is Illmatic,” and another movie, “Dior and I,” about the French fashion house and designer Raf Simons, are juggling multiple offers from buyers, we’re told.
“Dior” is the latest in a line of recently popular fashion films including “The September Issue,” “Valentino: The Last Emperor” and “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel.”
“It’s been a robust market, for docs,” said one festival-goer, adding that another getting big buzz is the Quincy Jones-produced “Keep on Keepin’ on,” which had at least five buyers circling as the price hit the seven-figure mark.
