Bethenny Frankel on divorce: ‘This is excruciating’

So much for happily ever after. Bethenny Frankel opened up about her surprise divorce with Jason Hoppy in her first television appearance since the split.

“I can’t just only be on reality TV and show everything when it’s fairy princess, fairytale, and then not take my hits when I have to,” she said on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show” today.

“Just going through something personal you have so many different emotions, and I feel like a bit of a disappointment to all of you. And, I feel like a failure,” she added.

“You are not a disappointment. You are not a failure,” DeGeneres replied.

“I feel like a failure. I really put it out there. I wanted the fairytale,” Frankel continued. “I thought I had it. And [daughter] Bryn is my fairytale … Love is everywhere. It’s the road and you’re on it. It has peaks and valleys, and that’s what it is, but I don’t know how people go through this because this is excruciating.”

As for her decision to divorce, Frankel told the host she “wanted to rip the Band-Aid off” so she could “start to heal,” but that she struggles with what lies ahead.

The SkinnyGirl magnate announced her split with her pharmaceutical sales exec husband just before the holidays.

Frankel said in a statement, “It brings me great sadness to say that Jason and I are separating. This was an extremely difficult decision that as a woman and a mother, I have to accept as the best choice for our family,” she said at the time.

The couple married in 2010 and are parents to daughter Bryn.

“You know everything and one day you don’t know. So I’m scared. I’m older. And I want to be able to say to people … It’s about what I do now … I never thought I’d be a role model but I think to some people I am or have been,” she told DeGeneres.

“This is an important time because it’s about what I do next. How I handle myself now with grace, with dignity. Now is the time that matters.”

Despite sitting on a ton of cash, Frankel is reportedly asking Hoppy to not only fork over child support, but also cover her medical bills as well.

TMZ reported that the reality star has filed legal documents asking for primary physical custody of their 2-year-old daughter, and wants Hoppy, who has made money from real estate, out of the marital home for good.

However, according to a new Us Weekly report, Hoppy seeking partial custody and is looking to score support of his own, as Frankel’s cocktail line was sold for an estimated $100 million in 2011.

The pair inked their prenup before their March 2010 wedding and Hoppy reportedly believes he still deserves a handsome payout.

A friend told the magazine, “He feels like he gave up his career for her. He basically stopped working to support her and wants to be compensated for it.”
