James Gandolfini apologizes to Leon Panetta

James Gandolfini is expecting an important call. Gandolfini, who plays Leon Panetta, the US secretary of defense and former director of the CIA, in “Zero Dark Thirty,” wears a wig for the part. “I sent a note to Leon saying, ‘I’m very sorry about everything. The wig, everything. You’re kind of like my father. You’ll find something to be angry about,’ ” Gandolfini told guests at the National Board of Review Awards at Cipriani 42nd Street Tuesday, while presenting Kathryn Bigelow with the best director award. He added screenwriter Mark Boal had told him Panetta wanted his number but “doesn’t know how to get in touch . . . This is the head of the CIA.”
