Frank Scaturro struggles to win voters

Frank Scaturro doesn’t know when to quit.

Although the Republican leadership has coalesced behind Bruce Blakeman for the 4th Congressional District on Long Island, Scaturro persists in his hopeless quest for the seat, just as he did two years ago, and four years ago.

Scaturro had a fund-raiser on Sunday night — a performance of “The Little Flower,” Tony Lo Bianco’s one-man show about Fiorello H. La Guardia — and it was a disaster. So few tickets sold (for $175, or $300 per couple), Scaturro was giving them away, but still only filled a third of the seats at the DiCapo Opera Theatre .

“He has no shot, no political or communications operation,” said one GOPer. In fact, FEC reports show the ex-Capitol Hill staffer is $283,630.46 in debt . . . mostly to himself.

Blakeman, who was formerly married to Nancy Shevell — now Mrs. Paul McCartney — has a good chance of gaining Carolyn McCarthy’s seat.

“If Scaturro continues his Quixotic primary campaign, it will only hurt the Republican candidate,” said my source. “He’s just a distraction.”

Scaturro did not return calls for comment before press time.
