A 1971 Irving Penn photo of Elaine Kaufman and a group of literary lions who frequented her legendary eatery will be auctioned off at the Table 4 Writers Foundation gala in her memory.
The image, “Elaine and Friends,” features Elaine’s habitués George Plimpton, Gay Talese, David Halberstam, Nicholas Pileggi, Lewis Lapham and William Styron, among others.
The photo’s been signed by six of its surviving subjects.
Another item up for auction at the annual gala Wednesday at the New York Athletic Club, we hear, is an image of the restaurateur drinking from the 1994 Stanley Cup with Rangers coach Mike Keenan and star Adam Graves.
