Michael Douglas: ‘I’ve become a poster boy for oral cancer’

Michael Douglas was honored at the American Cancer Society’s 100th anniversary gala Monday with the Marvin Hamlisch award, and he quipped from the stage, “I’ve become . . . in the past 24 hours, a poster boy for oral cancer.” Behind the scenes, Douglas was overheard telling a guest he had “no regrets” about causing a stir this week by saying he’d developed a cancer caused by HPV “which actually comes about from cunnilingus.” The “Behind the Candelabra” star added at the charity bash, “[I] tried to give a little PSA . . . about HPV — one of the few areas of cancer that can be controlled, and there are vaccinations that kids can get.” He also explained his wife Catherine Zeta-Jones was home baby-sitting.
