Before the San Antonio Spurs beat the Miami Heat in thrilling fashion in Game One of the NBA Finals Thursday night, coach Gregg Popovich soothed his nerves with several bottles of wine among him and five pals at db Bistro Moderne Miami. A source told us Popovich bought four bottles at the restaurant during dinner with friends Wednesday night and had brought two bottles of his own. A witness described Coach Pop as “enjoying himself with his friends” and said he “seemed to be using the night to just [relax] before the craziness of the finals started. Food just kept coming to the table, and servers continuously poured glasses of wine throughout the meal.” Another spy said Popovich wound up not uncorking the two bottles he’d brought because the restaurant’s selection was so good. Spur Tony Parker, Tiago Splitter, Boris Diaw and Nando De Colo dined at a separate table — without wine. The heavy pouring didn’t seem to impair the coach’s strategy, as the Spurs went on to stun LeBron James and the Heat on their home court.
