Ricky Gervais rebuffs Beyonce, Rihanna, Katy Perry’s prayers for Okla.

Beyonce, Rihanna and many more stars fled to social media to offer prayers and thoughts to victims of the monster tornado in Oklahoma, but comedian Ricky Gervais is urging social media users to “actually do something” instead.

The Wrap noticed the crass funnyman’s response to the trending Twitter hashtag #PrayForOklahoma, suggesting that his 4.6 million followers donate money to the Red Cross.

He first sent a missive to certain A-list singers: “@MTVNews: Beyoncé, Rihanna & Katy Perry send prayers to#Oklahoma #PrayForOklahoma” I feel like an idiot now…I only sent money.”

He then followed with a snarky hashtag of his own. “You can support #Moore response by txting REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10, or online at redcross.org#ActuallyDoSomethingForOklahoma”

Gervais, a proud atheist, has been invoking ire from some of his followers for his tweets.

“Hey! People that pray are actually doing something… Making themselves feel better. In the end, THAT is what truly matters,” a follower responded.

In response to some backlash, Gervais tweeted this morning: “Praying for something but not doing anything to make it happen has the same effect as writing to Santa & not letting mummy read the letter.”
