Michael Strahan says his dad, Gene, advised him on how to begin his football career and how to end it on top.
“I was scared to death,” says Strahan in Parade of when he was 17 and sent from Germany to Houston to live with an uncle so he could play football.
“Did I necessarily want to do it? No . . . but I thought, ‘He knows what he’s talking about. He’s my dad.’ ”
Years later, “After we won the Super Bowl in 2008, I debated, do I play another year? . . . My dad was like, ‘There’s no need to do that anymore.’ ”
