Clintons honored for work to save elephants at Wildlife Conservancy bash

Hillary Clinton and her daughter, Chelsea, were honored for their work to save elephants at the Wildlife Conservation Society’s gala at the Central Park Zoo Thursday, with Bill looking on.

“Some of my favorite memories as a child were with my parents at the Bronx Zoo,” a pregnant Chelsea told the crowd, including Mayor Bill de Blasio, Tony James, David Koch, Katie Lee and WCS trustee Diane Christensen.

“And so to think about now, on the precipice on which Marc [Mezvinsky] and I stand, of becoming parents, and going to the zoo and seeing not only the elephants, but seeing the baby gorillas and seeing the giraffes, I just got even more excited about being a New Yorker and about extending our family tradition to the next generation, and hoping that our children love zoos as much as Marc and I do.”

The dining area was close to the sea lion pool, and the creatures could be heard barking as Hillary spoke about the Clinton Global Initiative’s partnership to save Africa’s elephants, focusing on curbing poaching and ivory trafficking.
