Chris Noth sells his soul to the devil

Chris Noth loves playing Gov. Peter Florrick on CBS’ “The Good Wife,” but he’s itching to get back on the boards — and his next stage role might be Christopher Marlowe’s “Doctor Faustus.”

“I’ve sold my soul to the devil many times. Now, as I get older, it seems to mean more,” Noth told me with a laugh.

Noth is hosting a benefit Monday at The Cutting Room, the East 32nd Street venue of which he is a part owner, for Rainforest Action Network — a charity he’s been involved with since 1991, long before folks fretted over global warming.

“It’s a great cause. These are real activists trying to mitigate what’s happening,” Noth said. Rainforests consume carbon dioxide.

Warren Haynes of the Allman Brothers Band and Gov’t Mule is performing. Jim Gaffigan will provide comic relief. And the crowd is expected to include Griffin Dunne and Julianna Margulies.
