Brad Pitt caused a stir this weekend when he showed up at two award shows showing off his sleek new military-inspired haircut.

After sporting shoulder-length locks for the past few years, the 50-year-old’s new skin fade was on full display at Saturday’s Screen Actors Guild Awards.

While he looked as handsome as ever, it was unclear how Pitt felt about the change. He blamed the new hairstyle on an upcoming movie when asked about it at Sunday’s Producers Guild Awards.

“It’s for a part,” Pitt told E! News. “It’s not a choice!”

The actor is currently filming  “Fury,” a World War II action drama co-starring the controversy-prone Shia LaBeouf. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on November 14.

Pitt appeared at both award shows in support of director Steve McQueen’s “12 Years a Slave,” which he helped produce.

He showed up stag to the two events, as fiancée Angelina Jolie is currently in Australia filming her next directing project, “Unbroken.”

Despite the completely reasonable explanation for his new ‘do, the actor jokingly told paparazzi at LAX that there was another reason for the change on Sunday night, according to TMZ.

“It’s fashion, baby,” the star said with a smile.
