New Yorker cartoon editor feted at bash

“No, Thursday’s out. How about never? Is never good for you?”

That’s the caption on the most reprinted cartoon of all time — a masterpiece by Bob Mankoff, who had 2,000 cartoons rejected by The New Yorker before his first one was published in 1977.

Mankoff, who became the mag’s cartoon editor 20 years later, was feted by his boss David Remnick and his agent, David Kuhn, the other night at Kuhn’s Greenwich Village apartment.

It was a celebration for the publication of his graphic memoir, “How About Never — Is Never Good For You?”

The clever crowd included such New Yorker stalwarts as Andy Borowitz, Roz Chast, Calvin Trillin and Hendrik Hertzberg.
