The Writing Room looks to fill void left by Elaine’s

The Writing Room seems to be picking up where Elaine’s left off.

The legendary Second Avenue restaurant where Elaine Kaufman ruled for 48 years closed down in 2011, a few months after her death.

But the space reopened, with new owners and a new kitchen, in December as the Writing Room, and the old crowd is returning.

Bill Bratton was in Wednesday night with his wife Rikki Klieman. Also spotted at separate tables were Geraldo Rivera, Jackie Mason and Bo Dietl, who told me, “It’s becoming the new Elaine’s.”

Folks who liked the old Elaine’s can look forward to a book about the restaurant being penned by Amy Penn, who used to work for Post fashion columnist Eugenia Sheppard.

“The first time I met Elaine, she scared the s - - t out of me, and I don’t scare easily,” Penn wrote recently on newyorknatives.com.

Nicole Frail, an editor at Skyhorse Publishing, liked the column and signed Penn to a book deal.
