When Charlie Rangel pleaded for “fairness and mercy” at his ethics trial yesterday, he oddly found it from a right-wing Tea Party hero, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann. In the Speaker’s Lobby on Capitol Hill, Bachmann sang in a very sympathetic tone, “Hi, Charlie,” and put her hand on the distressed congressman’s back. A spy said, “Charlie seemed relieved to get compassion, even if it was from across the aisle.”
