Space trip with Leo sells for $1.5 million

Leonardo DiCaprio is flying to the moon – and he’s taking a wealthy space cadet with him.

The Wolf of Wall Street star auctioned off the chance to accompany him on a trip to outer space at a star-studded charity in France for amFAR, an international nonprofit group that supports AIDS research.

DiCaprio’s travel partner on the Virgin Galactic trip has not been revealed, ET reports.

It was the second year DiCaprio put up a space trip for the auction. Last year, Russian real estate mogul Vasily Klyukin  and another mystery bidder paid $1.9 million each to explore outer space with the 39-year-old actor.

AmFAR chair Sharon Stone served as auctioneer for this year’s gala, helping to raise a record $38 million.

Other big-ticket auction items included Andy Warhol’s 1967 painting of Marilyn Monroe, a 1968 painting by legendary artist Pablo Picasso, and a 10,000-year-old fossil covered in steel by contemporary artist Damien Hirst which sold for $15 million.

The gala was attended by stars, including Jessica Chastain, Heidi Klum, Rosario Dawson, Kellan Lutz and Justin Bieber.
