‘Sex’ vs. ‘Sex’ to bankroll O

“Sex and the City” star Sarah Jessica Parker and series creator Darren Star are holding competing fund-raisers for President
Obama in New York on Thursday night.

Parker, teaming up with Vogue editor Anna Wintour, is throwing a party at the West Village townhouse she owns with Matthew Broderick, while Star, along with Architectural Digest editor Margaret Russell, is hosting an event at The Plaza hotel.

But tickets for Parker’s event — at $80,000 a pair — are far more expensive than those for Star’s event. Tickets for Star’s fund-raiser, which is co-hosted by Newark Mayor Cory Booker, cost $10,000 each or $15,000 per couple and include a photo reception and dinner.

Star has also teamed up with co-host Alicia Keys on the event and arranged a performance by Mariah Carey.

The president and First Lady Michelle Obama are expected to attend both fund-raisers. They will first head to Parker and Wintour’s bash and mingle with fashion heavyweights including Kenneth Cole and Vera Wang, as well as architect and interior designer Daniel Romualdez.

Later, at Star’s gathering, guests are to include White House designer Michael Smith — who recently hosted an Obama fund-raiser at his Upper East Side apartment — and his partner, HBO executive James Costos.

A source told us, “While Sarah Jessica and Darren get on well, there is a friendly rivalry over the events.”

The Post on Friday reported that popular Mayor Booker, who was gunning for a position in Obama’s Cabinet, was out of favor with the administration after going off message on NBC’s “Meet the Press” last month. Booker’s reps insisted he continues to be close to the Obama White House and pointed out that he’s co-hosting the event Thursday and playing a key role at the Democratic National Convention.

Reps for both Parker and Star declined to comment.
