Top directors including Bennett Miller, Julie Taymor, Paul Haggis, Morgan Spurlock and James Toback came out to support a new documentary on late, beloved film critic Roger Ebert Monday night.

Martin Scorsese, a producer of “Life Itself,” was meant to introduce the Walter Reade Theater screening, but was stuck till midnight shooting an HBO project at the Explorers Club that’s being produced by Mick Jagger.

The New York Film Festival’s Kent Jones stepped in to introduce the Magnolia Pictures project to an audience including producer Steven Zaillian, James Brolin and Terence Winter.

Brolin’s here filming “The Nest” with Amy Poehler and Tina Fey, and said the actresses are always ad-libbing on set.
