“Of Mice And Men” star James Franco blasted the New York Times’ Ben Brantley as, “a little bitch,” after the theater critic gave his show a tepid review.
Franco – who’s starring in the new Broadway play with Chris O’Dowd – posted a glowing review of the show by Hollywood trade Variety on Instagram, but in a caption below, wrote: “Sadly the NYT and Ben Brantley have embarrassed themselves. Brantley is such a little bitch he should be working for Gawker.com instead of the paper of record. The theater community hates him, and for good reason, he’s an idiot.”
Brantley wrote in his review of Franco in the show: “Mr. Franco is often understated to the point of near invisibility,” and, “Though Mr. Franco musters a single, perfect tear for the play’s tragic climax, I only came close to shedding one.”
It’s the second time recently that Franco has caused controversy with his Instargram feed after hitting on a teenage fan of the show he meet outside the theater.
