What’s in a name? When MAC cosmetics partnered with high-profile fashion brand Rodarte to create a fall makeup line inspired by the colors and culture of Mexico, they managed to offend some overly sensitive, politically correct feminists. MAC named a frosty pink shade of nail polish after the impoverished Mexican city of Juarez, which, according to the complainers, is best known for the rape and murder of girls and women. “Naming [another] nail polish [in the line] ‘Factory’ further indicates the brand’s cluelessness,” editor-in-chief of women’s blog TheFrisky.com Amelia Parry said. MAC caved under the pressure and apologized for the product titles, and will give a portion of the proceeds of the MAC Rodarte collection to help those in need in Juarez.
