Chelsea’s Marc back in town

Chelsea Clinton and Marc Mezvinsky made themselves visible around town over the weekend in what looked like a calculated campaign to knock down swirling rumors of a troubled marriage.

Just a week after Page Six revealed that Mezvinsky left his job at hedge fund 3G Capital to be a ski bum in Wyoming, the banker hurtled back to New York to see and be seen with his wife of six months.

We reported that Mezvinsky would stay in Jackson Hole for a few months, and Clinton would remain here and visit him every few weeks. The more private Clinton is reportedly pursuing a Ph.D. at New York University’s Wagner School of Public Service.

After our story ran on Jan. 31, others speculated that Mezvinsky and Clinton’s marriage was on the rocks. But, maybe to quash the buzz, Mezvinsky made a quick return to town to be reunited with his wife. The pair were photographed leaving spin studio Soul Cycle in Union Square on Saturday morning. Later that day, the two were spotted having lunch at Fig & Olive on Lexington Avenue near 63rd, with another couple.

On Saturday night, Clinton and a girlfriend went to Lincoln Center for a concert by Broadway star Anika Noni Rose, and yesterday, she was spotted at lunch with her father, former President Bill Clinton, at La Petite Maison on West 54th Street, but Mezvinsky was not there.

The lovebirds married last July in a lavish wedding in upstate Rhinebeck. They met as teenagers but only began dating in 2005.

Friends of the couple have told the press that reports of trouble in the marriage are “absolutely false,” and sources close to the family say that Mezvinsky likely made a swift return to New York to show off their united front for the public.

A spokesperson for the Clinton family had no comment.
