Could these be Jay Jacobs‘ final days as state Democratic chairman? We hear that Gov. Cuomo wants to replace Jacobs, who was appointed by David Paterson in his final days, with Charlie King, a Cuomo ally. King, who’s currently the state party’s executive director, has an interesting history with Cuomo. He ran for lieutenant governor as Cuomo’s running mate in his failed campaign in 2002, and lost to him in the primary for state attorney gen eral in 2006. In December, Jacobs pledged to pay down the party’s $185,259 debt despite the uncertainty of his tenure. Regardless of the rumors, Cuomo’s spokesperson told us, “Not true.”
